Our History
The New Foundation first opened its doors in 1970 and was known at that time, as The Creative Living Foundation. While the original treatment focus of substance abuse has remained, its name and population eventually changed in 1973 to serve adolescents between the age of 11 and 17 exclusively. More importantly, however, was the recognition and inclusion of family and education into the residential treatment program.

By 1975, the concept of individualizing treatment was introduced into the therapeutic program and became the driving force in a new holistic centered approach to treatment. This approach, which continues today, respects the individual as a whole, dynamic person and recognizes the importance and contribution of various systems in maintaining optimal health and wellness

Since that time, numerous changes have occurred. The New Foundation relocated from its original facility in south central Phoenix to its current location in Scottsdale, AZ in 1993. The New Foundation obtained Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as well as North Central Accreditation (NCA) for its Marion Burton School. A new Domestic Violence Diversion Program was created in 1995 to respond to the increase in juvenile court referrals among youth. To date, this program remains the only short term residential program in Maricopa County that exclusively treats youth domestic violence. Clinical programming expanded and a continuum of care model was incorporated and included step down programs and services to meet the changing needs of clients and families. This included a therapeutic group home, partial care services, outpatient services, in home and respite services. The New Foundation continues to offer these quality programs and services today.

Today, TNF has improved its financial situation, as well as continued to expand its programs. TNF is recognized through the valley and state for its ability to successfully treat a wide range of issues occurring among disturbed children and their families. Currently The New Foundation offers the following programs and services:
